My buddy has a quadsport and the kick start will go down but just click on the way down, than it won't come back up, we've never heard it run, he just picked it up for $100 so idk any info is welcome

 

Take the clutch cover off and see what's going on, there are 2 rather large gears that have teeth only 1/2-3/4 around that may not be lining up at the right time. They are pretty heady duty so I couldn't imagine one stripping or breaking
