Default Suzuki lt50 (genuine or copy)

Can anyone please tell me how I can confirm a genuine Suzuki lt50 from a copy (linmax lt50). I'm looking at a bike for sale at present, it's white and blue and has the following :

- 50 sticker on the fuel tank (I believe this is the sticker from late eighties to early nineties)
- Suzuki on the seat
- Suzuki 's' on the engine cover
- handlebars does not have Suzuki embossed on the throttle cover, any bike I have looked at has this.
- pull start has a Suzuki badge but does not look like the regular one from looking at other bikes online

Can someone tell me if there is anything else I can check to confirm if the bike is Suzuki and not a copy which I believe is made by linmax? Really appreciate any help with this.

Linmax LT50s don't have the separate oil tank and pump. They are 32 to one petroil mix. The genuine Suzukis do have a badge on the pull start and Linmax don't, but anyone can stick a badge on. There is a makers plate on the tube between headstock and front crossmember. Frankly the Linmax was such a good copy, I wouldn't worry about buying one.

HI merryman, thanks so much for the reply. I wasn't aware the oil tank and pump aren't separate on the Linmax machine, should I assume if they are separate on mine it would mean its a genuine Suzuki?

I have also found the following whilst doing a further inspection:

- behind the engine (just before the back wheels) it has 'Manufactured by Suzuki' embossed on the frame.
- On the very front of the frame there is a long code made up of letters and number etched into the frame, should there not be a vin plate?

That should be the vin number if it has 17 digits. (letters and numbers)

Are most of the parts transferrable between suzuki and the linmax 50cc?

Yes, there are odd differences, I had a Linmax with a dud ignition coil in the flywheel. Got a genuine coil and found the earth fastened to the other mounting bolt. Wouldn't have mattered, except the prawns at the factory had sheared that bolt off, leaving the coil mounted by one bolt. Had to get a tiny, and very seized bolt out of the engine case to fit the new coil. Only time I have used Nitric acid for removing a bolt, and it took a week.

I would guess at genuine, as the oil injector pipe is connected, and S is cast in the RH side engine cover. Linmaxes don't have this.

Thanks merryman, am I right in saying that all linmax lt50 bikes need the fuel and 2 stroke premixed, there is no separate oil tank for the oil? Mine has a separate tank. Does the linmax also have an electric start as well as the pull start?
