2001 Suzuki KQ 300 shaft problem

I have a 2001 Suzuki KQ 300. I'm having a problem with one of the shafts, that come off the rear end. Last year one twisted off at the U joint. I bought a new shaft, with U joints and installed. This year it did it again same side. What's the problem? Also noticed it seems like my rim is warped. But it seem to eat shafts all of sudden?

Did you buy a genuine shaft? I repaired one with a "UJ kit" and noticed the spider part was thinner than the original, but the cups were right. Lasted about 12 months before it broke and I had to buy a very expensive genuine shaft assembly.

Yes, I bought a suzuki shaft it cost me $400. I should mention that my tires were frozen as well. So I wonder if that is what caused it break.

Where did it break? The usual, is the UJ bearings get worn, the spider then breaks out of a yoke and chews both yokes up. Worn splines is lack of lubrication, usually because the rubber boot has gone and dirt/water got in.

It broke right at the U joint, so not sure if the U joint itself was junk. I will be tearing it apart on Wednesday. Will post pictures for you to see

Hmmm, I'm interested to see how it broke??

Same place the original broke last year. I noticed there was a lot of ice build up, so that would explain for the freezing. The bearings seem fine no play in them. I will have to buy another one and clean all the hubs since there was ice in one.

Just a thought, Suzuki usually equipped the UJs with rubber covers. In fact there was a recent post on here asking if it mattered that the boot had split. Consensus was that it didn't matter, but I wonder if some snow, which then froze, got into the yoke and jammed the spider, a bit unlikely, but Suzuki fitted those boots for some reason.

I have the boot on mine, not really sure why it broke. but on the hunt for a new one. Local Suzuki dealer here wants $550 for a new, I paid that last year for that shaft so now thinking of getting a used one to see.
