Default Must have override button pushed in low range?

Guys, I just bought a used 2005 King quad 700. Love the power this thing has. I Java question though.if I put it in low range, I can’t gas it much unless I’m holding down the override button. If I hold it down I can go wide open, but as soon as I release it, she starts spitting and sputtering. High range is fine. Just does it in low range. Is this normal?
thanks.
