Hey all, I just purchased a Quadzilla (1989) for the second time. I had a new one way back in the day and sold it after a couple of years. Haven't been riding since...
Anyway how does a relatively stock LT500 compare speed and acceleration wise to the Raptor and DS650's ?????
Thanks

Stock vs stock it'll smoke 'em, acceleration wise.

It will smoke them both in all areas except drivability, but that's mainly because of the electric start/reverse on the competition... The Zillas are supposed to be quite reliable when taken care of well.

the zilla will outrun the raptor. at least mine will the zilla was completely stock and the raptor only had a pipe, filter and jet kit. as for the ds i have personaly never raced one on either machine.as far as handling and ridability goes i dont think there is that much of a differance they each have thier advantages and disadvantages. some people say the zilla is to big but i havent had any problems in the trails we ride in. i can still get to the end of the trail faster on the zilla than i can on either of my other 2 quads. but i have never ridden on a motocross track of any type and probably never will unless someone builds on around here. so all the people that say the zilla is at a disadvantage there may be right i personally dont know. i can say in my experience it is by far to me the best hillclimber of my group though.

i dont know about stock, mine didnt stay stock long enuf to find out..
put LT500 motor in LT250 frame.. lighter weight.. then the motor got modded..
but the raptor and DS cant touch it.

check it out.. http://kos.realns.com

DUDE! That's a pretty sweet quad you have there! I've seen it before, but I guess I have more respect for it now that I've swapped the engine on my LT250R. I noticed that you're running a custom frame, how much do you estimate the entire machine weighs? You're running fuel injection? That's pretty trick. I'll send you a private message with the address to my Forum.

Welp, how they compare in acceleration is simple....while the Raptor and DS use finesse, the Zilla uses brute force........Latah

Pound for pound (in stock condition) they are the meanest baddest monster out there.

LT575 01-04-2002 09:54 PM

thanks 1986SuZuKiQuAdRaCeR,
the bike weighs 240 pounds.
yeah runs Methonal, we're debating on whether to get rid of the injection unit and go to a large Lectron carb.
its getting NOS.
and thats an old pic of it, but, it now has a KTM 550 cylinder mated to the LT500 bottom end.
dad chose the KTM 550 cylinder for the superior port design.

it definately was a pain in the butt making it fit.
the thing now pulls even harder than before.

Thanks for the info guys.. A Friend of mine has a DS650 that has a pipe, cdi box with higher rev limit, larger carb etc... So I guess it'll be the first real test for the Zilla or maybe it wont' be a test at all
