I recently installed the clutch I had LRD modify for my kids LT80. Now it revs much quicker and accelerates alot faster but it stays at a high rev and doesnt get much past 30mph. Is there something I should check? did LRD maybe screw something up? Is 30mph about it with a fresh bore, open intake, and carb and pipe ???

You've boosted your power, now to make use of it, you will need to regear, a bigger counter shaft sprocket will give you more top end,as long as you don't go too big and lose the nice bottom end you have now. go up 2 teeth, and see how that works. I'm sure a lot of the LT80 racers out there have their favorite front/rear ratios to get the most out of the motor. Don't worry, you'll get lots of good help and advice in these forums.

Without porting you shouldn't expect much, the only part that you put on to gain power is the pipe. The clutch mods seem to be working by what you explain

Mark,

It's revving high, and only going 30 MPH, becuase the bike is just too small for you to be riding!!! You've got pleny of other bikes in the garage to ride. Quit hogging the kid's bike!! Just kidding....I saw your thread on here and I had to give you a hard time. Time for me to go into the garage, put the pipe on, and rejet the 400ex. Hopefully the weather is still good for riding next weekend. Later...

Alright, I meant the kids were riding it!!!! Not that I havent spent some time on it too, it's a fun little machine. Hope I dont need a 690 kit to keep the Raptor up with that piped EX

Well....I doubt you'll need a 690 kit, but I'll be able to keep up allright now I think. I just got it all back together again, and the pipe, filter, and jetting made a huge difference. I can pull wheelies in 4th gear now. My next mod is a cheap one. I'm going to pick up a 14 tooth front sprocket (one down from stock) for riding in the sand. I am all ready to go next Saturday. I'll see if I can round up any other riders. Bring your kids if you get that LT-80 figured out and want to give it a ride test. I'll email you in a few days and we can figure out when and where to meet this weekend.

It is quite possible that the roller weights in the front clutch are too light for your motor. Ride the quad without the side cover on and check that at top speed, the belt is sitting at the top of the front clutch. If it's not, the roller weight should be increased, or the motor needs to pull and few more rpm. Send the barrel to LT 80 for this..
