Uh-oh....HELP! '99 King Quad won't start
#1
Ruh-roh George! I have a '99 King Quad I bought in April of last year. Yesterday evening I went through a shallow mud puddle at about 15-20 mph, and it immediately DIED on me & wouldn't start back up. I tried to pull start it but it would crank, wasn't firing at all, had to go get me truck and drag it home behind me. I haven't looked at it at all yet. I'm going to check it out when I get home today. Can anyone tell me what I should check first? HEEELP!

Let's see....First of all, try again a few times when you get home.....Try the electric and then the pull...Then try tipping your quad upright(it may take some help)....there may be water in your intake......If all else fails, try changing the spark plug....Maybe another member has a few ideas but thats what i have to offer...Good Luck and Ride Hard!!!

Yep, I had to hang my head in shame too.
Our 99 KQ was idling poorly. Took it to the dealer and had them adjust the carb. Next time I had it out, halfway through the day I could not keep it running. Whenever I let off the throttle, it would die. The mechanic's ears must have been burning that afternoon. After much bitching and complaining, I realized that the choke was on. Another control that was poorly placed. To this day, I still end up twisting the choke on at some point through the ride. Experience now tells me to check that first.

Reminds me of the time myself and two buddies John and Cary were out Salmon fishing a few years back. The lake was loaded with fishermen and their boats. We get about a mile out, and Johns 18ft- 85hp boat just stalls. We had a little 15 hp fishing boat pull us into shore. It was embarrasing being seen from all the other boaters being pulled by a 15hp boat.Took it to the Marina, the Mechanic looked at the kill switch setting right near Johns drivers seat.He flipped it and it fired right up.HOW EMBARRASING.I wonder if the two cases of Bud Light had anything to do with it?===BILL
