I just put brand new bear claws on the back of my zilla ( 10 " wheels ) and all I do is spin , they are great in the skagg and the mud.I do more gravel pit riding and hard packed. I am looking for an all around better tire. I am not very heavy (170) lbs, could be part of the problem ,but there has to be a way to get better traction.
Heard that "Holeshots" are a decent tire |
From my experience, if you do a lot of hard packed dirt riding, I would consider getting some Turf Tamers. They do really good in the hard packed stuff. But if you want a good all around tire, grab you a set of Holeshots. I weight 180lbs. and with a set of Holeshots on the back of my 400 Sport, I have no problem bringing that 500+lbs Polaris up on top of me.

You didn't mention where you ride or whether you race. I ride in hardpack and loose gravel out here in the desert. My Maxxis AllTraks are narly to say the least. The only problem I experienced with them is that they hook up so well that they are hard to powerslide. Holeshots and Razrs are good tires and slide much better but won't hook up as well in the loose stuff as do the AllTraks. I had Turf Tamers and theyr'e good on MX tracks but I hated them everywhere else.

Lol dont feel bad I cant get my Zilla to hook up anywhere but on pavement.

My zilla hooks up good about half way through 2nd LOL. I have shredders and they work good.

Too much power, you need to sell your 500 to me cheap and go get yourself a Z400!
You may want to check out a set of radials off a 400EX or Raptor, they hook pretty good but get flats easy. |
I run 21x12x9 Mudsharks on my Zilla, and along with my 275 pounds, they seem to hook up great unless I twist the quarter turn throttle a quarter turn......heh heh.......I did have flat turf tamers when I first bought the Zilla, and they wouldn't grab for nuttin'......but yeah, the Mudsharks do give good traction and seem pretty slideable (is that even a word?), and they also wear like, well, something that doesn't wear to quickly, I guess......I had a thought of puting steel wheels on awhile back to weigh the back tires down a wee bit more, but went with aluminum instead (Douglas .190's, to be exact), so maybe that would help.....

I have RAZRS on mine. They hook up great but, I can still get them to break loose at WILL. They wear fast too.

I haven 't had my blackwaters long enough to know the wear factor, but they work good enough for when I'm not in the sand. I guess you could say they hook up; I can pull the front up in 1-3 on any surface and I weigh in at 340lbs. I love the holeshots on my little 200 honda though. They bite hard and slide well.

A shorter swingarm will be most effective. Even on pavement, most with smoke the tires through at least 2 gears.....with any tire.
