Okay guy's... I'm needing help deciding which pipe to buy for my precious antique.
For me, it's either a Paul Turner or the new LRD adjustable.
I'm looking for a Massive Mid-Range and Top end performer.

Pro's/Con's on either pipe?

I'm running an older style FMF and HATE it! It will not perform in the RPM range I am wanting.
No pipe mfg'r will share RPM range data.

I'm running 180# static compression, some fairly radical porting, 41mm PWK, Delta Force Reed Cage, just to name a few.

What have you experienced?

I have a 1989 LT500 and It came wth a FMF pipe also, hated it. I bought a LRD ajustable pipe and it made a big differce in the mid to top end . You can adjust it to your riding . Mine it adjusted all the way out by LRD for more low end power due to the fact I am 300lbs. and with alot of work it produces 62.5 hp at the rear wheels. I bought chrome one for $ 345.00 back in 1998. It is very loud well over the limits, Over 108 db and it has no spark arrestor. I had to cut the left front fender and the bar that holds the lower fender need to be cut and made a bracket to keep the fender from flopping around. Good Luck !

Thanks Tick!

That's what I'm hunting for.... some real world experience with something other than the FMF's that everybody seems to run.

I absolutely hate the thought of cutting my plastic to make it fit (Factory original '87 plastic that is NOT broken), but if it does make a significant HP diff... I'm all over it!

I don't care about the noise levels because the communist enviro-nazi's haven't hit my playgrounds yet. I see they offer a 'quiet' version of the fatty silencer... wondering if that helps much?

Thanks for the reply!

Pual turner makes a pipe kit for that machine. I got one on my 250 quadracer. I got the "quiet" silencer. The only difference is it shoots the exhaust fumes to the ground instead of straight back. The pipe mad a big difference on the machine. Add their rad valves and wow. i don't think you have to cut or modify anything with their pipe (as far as plastic goes).

Unless you are in the market for a balls-out drag pipe such as a CT Whale pipe, ect, then I would strongly suggest the LRD pipe. It makes the most top end power of any pipe short of a drag pipe. Pipes such as CT,FMF,Duncan/Paul Turner, are all for low-mid power and will not make the gains on the top end that you are looking for. And if nothing else, the LRD can be set up to make low end power.

If you go to www.out4sand.com and hit the readers rides you will see THE TICK. I can send you a picture of the fender cut if you want.

Thanks no2SBS! I really don't want a drag pipe because I'm experimenting with building one myself (With the assistance of Pipe modeling software)...
I've read LRD's claims, and I'm seriously leaning that direction due to the adjustability (Cool, more toy's!!) but I've never seen one run.
I have ridden a bike with the PT pipe on it, and it was better than the FMF... Just wanted a comparison/opinion with the LRD.

Hey Tick! That is one gooood loooking machine dude! It doesn't look to me like the fender cutting is very extensive. (I just hate the thought of cutting flawless plastic) As long as I don't have to do a race cut or anything... I'm in!
I would like to see a close up of the cut if you would send me a photo.

My little '87 still looks as good as the day it rolled off the showroom floor (Warning stickers and all).
I love your 'nickname' for your toy!! I've always said mine's "cheaper than a divorce" (But not by much)

Thanks guys!!
