87 LT250R Won't Start (Electrical Maybe)

So I got my motor back in my lt250R, filled her back up with fluids, and she wouldn't start. I checked the spark and I'm getting a little yellow spark, but not the blue arch that the book says I should see. Does this sound like a problem and which part of the electrical system should I start with. It had a Roost Boost (No I didn't put that stupid thing on....It came with the quad when I bought it). I took that off because I have heard they can cause problems. I tried pulling the quad behind a truck and it would sound like it was running and would rev up with the throttle, but the second I put on the clutch or stopped moving the motor would cut out. Please let me know if anybodies got any ideas or other things I should be testing. The manuals trouble shooting is doing me much good.
Thanks

It also seemed that sometimes I would get a spark and other times I would not. Help....

Check your ground and make sure it is good.

Check the flywheel on the left side of the engine. Mine become loose when the woodruff key sheared. This caused a random spark when testing the plug against ground because sometimes the flywheel turned and sometimes it didn't. It also caused the kick start to kick back and bite me a bunch of times since the timing was all screwed up from the slipping flywheel. It never ran though with a slipping flwheel. Just random sparks and biting kickstarts. It's worth a look at least.

Mr. Bones I think you were right on. Got into the flywheel and it was completely loose and had no key left. Have not gotten it back together yet, but thanks, for the info, I'm sure that was the prob.
Once again this forum rocks

Excellent. It's an easy fix as long as you have a woodruff key. I just ordered one as a spare from ronnies.com, here is the part #: 08341-31039. It's a 3mm and costs $1.02. Get two of them as one can be a spare for later. The key simply aligns the flywheel into the proper position so the timing is right. If you have a Clymer manual, it will detail how to install it. At least its good for something!

Good luck!
