Default 1987 LT230S Questions...PLEASE RESPOND ASAP!!!

I am looking at getting this 1987 230S in the area that I happened to come across through a customer of mine at the honda dealer...anyways...it was purchased many years ago by my customer as a project for his son the restore and his son wanted nothing to do with it. So he said he'd sell it to me for $200.00...the bike has no plastic and needs a new suspension but before I go buy this thing I want to hear it run. To do this I need to bring a new plug(what number NGK???), new gas, and I will give it a quick oil change too(how much does it require???) (filter part # too???) When I went to look at it I gave it a compression test by pulling the plug and putting my finger over the hole and kicking the engine and it seemed to be fine(blew my finger off the hole anyways) the case has been welded behind the front sprocket and after reading other posts I gather that it is from a chain break and case smack... what shocks will fit this model besides the 230s ones...will any others??? anyone have any for sale?

Im not sure which type of bike the 230s is. If its a quadrunner, disregard this info. If its a quadsport then

plug= NGK D7EA
oil filter= Suzuki Genuine Parts # 16510-25c00
oil amount=less than 2 quarts total (it has a dipstick)

Do not waste your time or money. A friend had one and it was worthless. The parts were hard to come by and there are not many aftermarket parts either. Good Luck

I’ve had no problem getting parts for my Quadsport lt230. Seems like a good bike to me for the $s it takes to acquire one. I paid 500$ for mine in Fl where all quads are more expensive. It ran for a year and a half with nothing but new clutch disks. After that I did have to put in new piston rings and had too take the top end apart two more times to solve a mystery problem that caused it to smoke and last weekend the piston seized up. I dont consider that terrible though for a 17 year old bike that was run very hard at all times.

HEY THERE, this is in regards to the cracked case in front of the drive sprocket. check the axle bearings out! that is the most common problem with mag covers breaking (mag needo cover). the axle is moving and the chain is jumping the sprocket and busting the casing. it took me 5 mag covers at about 100 bucks apiece to figure it out finally. have someone hold the rear end up off the ground or use your back under the grab bar if your alone, and check the axle for excessive play. the bearings are under 100 bucks for both and are easy to change. but that's why every quadsport has or has had a busted mag cover. keep the chain adjusted properly and get a sprocket guard if you don't have one.

i'm only 13 but i have a 230s and i think that its the best quad ever it keeps up with most newer quads and handles awsome. I can hit any jump and take any corner

and i can get a lot of after market parts too even at the local yamaha dealer!

My dad got me my first 87' 230 quadsport and he got it for $1100 from a grandpa who only let his grandkids ride it when they behaved well and had had it in his garage since 1992. I rode it for two years, stuck a pipe, spacers and an air filter on it, and beat a 300 ex with it in that condition. After that i rebuilt the motor, piston cam cam springs clutch oil cooler, and then razr tires with .160 front and .190 rear alum. duglass rims, nerfs, six pack rack, and prm front bumper. that thing would smoke ne 300ex and stay with warriors. It never broke down either, and i got $1900 out of it. It still had the original shocks on it and they worked great.
