2003 Raptor 660 problems
I just bought a 2003 raptor 660. The bike would start hard and idle only with full choke (which was like crap) backfireing like crazy. The guy i bought this off said it needed the valves adjusted. I recently cleaned the carbs (top to bottom), I changed the oil, changed the plug, and flushed the gas tank. There was water in the gas because the guy let it sit for 3 years without winterizing it. I am looking for an answer to why it wont run normal without choke on all the way. Please HELP!!!!

Sounds like you need the valves adjusted also..... Maybe even a top end rebuild. When that happened with my boy's 05 Raptor 660R we took it apart and actually found a small rock that had been sucked into the carb, through the carb, through one of the intake valves and landed on the piston, ultimately bending one of the valves.......
It also just happend on the 05 yzf250 that we have, the rollers on the cam were worn out ultimately tearing up the valves.....
We've spent alot of money in the engine shop....

About that popping and only idles with choke
It could be extremely rich fuel mixture. My 03 Yama yz250f dirtbike was doing that. I had to use like 1/4 throttle just to start it. And then it wouldn’t idle. And I pulled the choke and it idled just fine because it got it off idle barley. So your bottom end might be extremely rich. Check ur plug. It will tell u if it’s rich, it will be all grimy and black, if lean it should be like a white chalk color. If it’s jetting at all. Could very well be valves. Just rebuilt engine on that bike and when got done with break in it wouldn’t start without a push because it was just sooooo rich on bottom end. Rapes all my friends’ quads and bikes now.
