Default Tailgate weight capacity - Nissan Titan

I recently purchased a Nissan Titan and can't get any info on what weight the tailgate will support. I want to know if it will support putting my King Quad on with ramps. Thanks for any information.

The only thing I have seen recently at my local nissan dealer was a guy wanting a new tail gate cause his lawn tractor ripped the cable tie points off (hope I am saying that right. the cable that goes from the bed to the tail gate?). Althou he was glad it was the tail gate, and not the bed itself that ripped apart.

Wow, I hope that was a flukey thing! georged, you should have no problems with your Nissan tailgate standing up to the weight of a quad. If by chance you do happen to break something though, I would also sell the truck.

Nissan's official tailgate weight capacity is 200lbs, partially because these tailgates have a very nice hydraulic assist feature in opening/closing and the cable supports.

I just got rid of a 2005 F350 and the person who bought it pointed out stress marks on the hinge supports (look at the paint surrounding hinges, etc.) from overloading that tailgate with the King Quad, the only heavy item ever put on that tailgate. It was loaded using ramps resting on the tailgate, so cable test strength isn't the only consideration for tailgate weight.

Since the quad seldom leaves the property, I'm going to plan on trailering it for any need to infrequently move it to other locations.

At one time or another I've owned all the pickups made (including International, the best P/U ever made) and only broke two tailgate components; an F250 cable and a hinge on a Silverado. This Titan, other than the short bed (which doesn't matter because I seldom haul much of anything) is by far the best driving pickup I've ever had. If necessary, I'll use a trailer rather than abuse the tailgate.

I agree. I really liked the Titans when i test drove them. The local Nissan dealers must really like them too, as they didn't really seem willing to deal with me when I was ready to purchase Oh well, I went Mexican made, lol!

I have really enjoyed my Titan. It's an 04 King Cab 2wd. I definitely has the umph needed to tow. I've hauled 5 ATV's on a buddy of mines trailer and never knew it was back there.

I studied the specs on Chevy, Dodge, Ford, Nissan and Toyo 1/2Ts, and user forum comments, with the Titan beating them all in every category except interior, where Chevy was rated best. Titan was by far the fastest. The one I bought had a sticker of $41.2k and I got it for $34.1k. I've bought my last five vehicles using the Internet after research and test drives. I prefer that method not only for grinding one dealer against another within the sales region from the comfort of home, but especially because the Internet salespeople are polite, informative and apply no pressure.
