Tires for the big 4x4's, what's your take?

Hi guys im in the market for some new rubber for my new big bore 4x4

I want the meanest nasty tires on the market, BUT I want them to last also. So I must compromise by getting a mostly nasty tire that will handle many many miles of gravel road.

So what tire will do well on the Gravel, do well in dry conditions (rocks) but won't give up much in the mud?

I drive alot of logged areas too so puncture resistance is a must.

on that note has anyone tried the ATR tires? Radials might be nice, http://www.tiresnstuff.com/itp-holeshot-atr.html but I think these might be left behind in the mid a bit

Here is the tires im looking at getting:

I'm pretty sure I'll go 27" and order the tire/wheel package deals, just wanted some feedback on how the aggressive tires hold up with lot's of miles in the gravel and rocks.

We have both mudlites and 589's and like both very much. ATR's might be your best choice for the givin terrain you'll be riding.

holeshot atr's are trail tires and dont do well in the nasty stuff. Typically no better than stock tires.

Mudlites are great but rough on trails and wont hold up to gravel, rocky, or road riding.

589's are heavier and arent much for trails. They are good in the mud and hold up well but dont like to go fast.

I dont have first hand experience with the others so I'll keep my mouth shut about them. I would look at the maxxis bighorn radials. They will be the next tire I buy for my p700.

Totally impressed with the Mudlites! Not one problem over 300 miles on the Hat/McCoy trail system. Rocks, hills mud, mud, and more mud. Spent a lot of time pulling sport quads out. What I like most about the M.L.'s is their ability to keep you glued to your line on off-camber stuff. They don't slide towards the hole........JMHO

The mudlites are an excellent tire and the best imo for bikes under 500cc due to thier grip and light weight. It's just my experience that their long term wear is not as long as most other mud tires. It's a trade off and for the less weight and cheaper price it may be worth it for many people.

My 589's work great on trails. Don't get me wrong they not the best trail tire but I would recommend them for what you described. My second choice would be Kenda Bear Claws. I am buying these for my wife's 360.

The only issue one may have is the weight factor. I had to buy a Dalton clutch kit to keep my belt tight.

No matter what replacing your tires is a good investment.

My favorite is the mudrunners run flat, they wear like iron, I put 14,000km + I had 3 sets of them. If you loose tire pressure you drive home and fix it for your next run.... They are not the best in the mud but they still work well. The 28 589 are great in mud and snow. I put about 3,000km on my mudlights 26" and they are great all way around but I don't think they are going to last long, I think mine are rotting from the inside out. I was not impressed with the dd but some people like em. I had serious wear quickly problem with the blackwaters. The holeshots believe it or not I never owned a pair yet.

My bud rides the 650 Prairie and had the SwamP Witches on before switchin gto the M.L.s. Said he'd never run anything but M.L.s again.

i agree mudlites, even tho i have 589s.

if you want the biggest, baddest longest lasting tire, get a set of 28" edl vampires, or a set of highlifter 29.5's outlaws.

j/k just get some 26 inch mudlites, and you will be happy.
