How fast are the can-am 800's??
my friend tried to tell me they go 80 in a quarter mile, that seems kinda fast for a utility bike to me, how fast are they really?
thanks for replies |

Might be a stretch. I would guess low 70s on the road.

No more than 75MPH

Most big bores can achieve a speed around 70 mph. Mine will hit 70, but the Outty will get there faster

All I know is the one I rode made my slightly modified SP 700EFI feel kind of sluggish, mainly right off the bottom. The Can-AM 800 didn't have any lag at all. The thing was scary quick from a standing start. What little I rode it though it felt to me as if it would overpower it's suspension pretty easily. It could just be the difference between my Sportsman suspension which I have dialed to my liking vs. the stock settings on the Can-AM. Either way the thing was scary fast and if there was a dealer closer I might consider giving it a second look. I always had good performance and service out of Can-Am bikes years ago.

The one I rode I did a couple of good speed runs on. It would get up past 60 extremely quickly and I wasn't looking down at the speedo once it went past I was concentrating on the road and riding. You better hang on brother because that 800 simply flat gets with it from a dead stop. I was soon going much faster on a utility ATV that I was comfortable going especially on pavement. Big flotation tires, long travel suspension, locked rear section with no differential, high center of gravity? Not the best for rapid high speed maneuvers. When it got up on the top end, while it felt a lot better then older ATVs did I still didn't care to spend a whole lot of time playing around up there.

Ive had mine up to 70 on sand in a .25 of a mile and I weigh 300lbs. On pavement it would easily do 80 if the the rev limiter would allow.

I've shot over 70 a few times, gets there in a hurry, it's still pulling pretty strong even over 70-75ish.....as someone here stated these ATV's are simply NOT situated to be riding THAT fast period. I'm not as concerned about speed as power, I like knowing if I'm going up a hill I have enough power to make it to the top with no problems.

How fast are the can-am 800's??
I'm the same way but I'm confident that anything with a 500cc or better sized engine WILL have enough power to pull any hill.

All depends on the type of ground that is under you. IF you're in very loose gravel, powder dirt or sand even 700cc's can have problems and depending on how steep the grade is as well you might need a heck of a fast approach to keep momentum going.
Now if it's just a hill with no loose ground and you lave a low gear, yup, you should be able to go up just about anything. There have been a few times my Rincon was at it's limit going up a grade, only once did I feel it MIGHT cut out on me, it's a 650 but has no low gear. |
