Well since we know nothing other than what the manufacture has told us about the 850xp I would go brute, just because I know the machine and what its capable of,

But if the new 850xp is as reliable as the past sportsmans, and dont have any huge flaws to be recalled that we dont know about yet, then the 850 would be my choice.

JFYI the 850XP is a all new 09 model and we do not have much info other than basic as of now, Thoe there is a few vids on youtube.com of one up against a Can-Am Outlander 800.

After watching Daryl Rath totally spank a bunch of other quads including a BF 750, an AC 650 H1, and an 800 Renegade with his new, stock 850 Sportsman, I would have to say the new Polaris is going to be hard to beat, and yes, I know a pro rider like him could have probably rode a 250 Beartracker and beat them, but that 850 sure did make the other quads look sad.

After seeing the videos I would pick the XP 850. Before that I thought the AC MudPro would be the one to get.

Sportman 850 xp has more ground clearance., more power (will rarely matter in the mud though) and an amazing suspension. I'm pretty sure it can outperform everything in the mud next to mabey a Grizzly 700 or Thundercat 1000.

One thing I notice though is the tires are meant to be great smooth all round tires where as the other sportsman tires have huge lugs that are meant to hook and dig into the terrain.

it could be pretty even performance in the mud if the Brute doesn't get caught or hung up on it's ground clearance though. The Brute is also lighter.
