Vintage Jap Street Bikes

Any of you old timers or even younger guys ever own or have a 66 Yamaha Big bear Scrambler (250 or 305 ) OR a 66- 67 CL77 Honda 305 Scrambler? These were my first bikes and rode on the street and trails and would like to hear your experiences OR better yet if you have one PLEASE post some pics! Guess I'm feeling old and nostalgic  OPT

I think a guy with a shop near mine has 1 of each of those(250 Yamaha and a 305 Honda)... cant remember which one is restored and which one is rough.. He is gone for the day but Ill ask him tomorrow.. he also just got a mid 60's 250 Honda with a stamped steel frame...

Ill also try and remember to bring my camera with me and take some pics..

A friend had a Big Bear while I had the competition to the Big Bear the 68 Kawasaki A7SS Avenger. Very similar handleing bikes,of course the 350 of the A7 made it faster without much more weight. Its a typical early Japanese street bike. Good running, fairly reliable (relatively speaking considering they had points ignitions)poor brakes, poor handling (even for 60's/70's standards), fit and finish is good for the most part. They are fairly collectable, but unlike other models only people like you and me would really apreiciate one in person.

Here is my unrestored originonal 1968 Kawasaki A7SS Avenger (350 rotary valve twin) It runs, just has a little dust on it from the winter storage.

'78 is vintage right?

old polaris tech 01-13-2012 10:18 AM

GOOD LOOKING bikes! Yea,only old guys would appreciate the early to mid sixty's Japanese standard bikes, even with their apparent flaws :) But back then we were either strong enough to overcome the weaknesses, OR too stupid because of youth! THANX GUYS, PS if a 78 model is old to you, then it's vintage :) IT does classify as vintage now. OPT

I thought I had a lot when I had seven bikes counting my son's in the garage :) I turned an avocation into a vocation in the mid 80's and I only have one now! Making it a job instead of play ruins hobbies :D OPT
