Here are some pics from the weekend get together at SilverLake. I make no claims as to the quality or rational behind these.

When you discussed rationale, I expected pics like Gabes' from Little Sahara. Thank you for wasting 5 minutes of my life downloading pictures of flat sand and posing and trucks. Oh well, at least I know to never go there as it is 4 miles farther than Little Sahara from my house. To drive hundreds of miles for that, I would be depressed.

It is anything but flat. In many pictures you can see trucks that look like dots on the top of dunes in the back ground. That will give you perspective of how big the dunes are.

This page has some action pictures of the Drakart:

Couple questions:

1. I assume all the parked vehicles in the fenced-in area are parked in the Parking Lot?

2. What are those posts in the fifth picture? They appear to be posts in the middle of the dunes.

the posts in the middle of the dunes are for directional traffic, so nobody gets killed comming over a tall dune. silver lake rocks, I say if you got a chance go check it out for yourself. you may want to call ahead and reserve a camp site. and yes the fenced in area is the parking lot.

How much in advance should I reserve my camp site at the state campground? I want a waterfront site, and I'd bet they're popular. Should I allow a month, 2 months?

a week or 2 notice should be good, heck if you go during a not so busy time of year you wouldnt even need a reservation. the park is open till october 31st (I think), somewere around there. yeah I cant wait to go back, Ive been 3 times this year and it just keeps gettin sweeter. last time I went the dunes were really peaked. it was great, lots of high flyin. only bummer was that someone got killed in a 4x4. its the last hill before the exit, its always a drop-off. some how the truck rolled over and crushed the people inside. Im hopein to go again soon, throw a post up here and let everyone know when your goin, maybe we could meet up.

That last hill can be bad, especially in a truck. You want to stay to the right side where it is not so steep.
