We'll be at Jawbone for the entire Thanksgiving weekend. We're meeting friends that will be there for the entire week.

Welcome to the forum!
As far as riding areas there is a spot up here just a few miles north of Oakhurst on 41 called Miami Motorcycle trails.
Stick around. There will be some folks in to show you the way!

BTW is your screename Stargate inspired?

Hey fans, LTNS.

anubis, hang around. We ride a bit. I've been keeping it low (gas prices and my back is giving me fits ).

There's going to be a decent sized group at Hollister the weekend before Halloween (including Trick-or-treating for the kids.) I know that Delanini, powerstroke and I will be there. There's probably another 4 families at least (from this site alone) that will be there. Powerstroke and I will be leaving in the morning on 10/28. It takes about 2-2.5 hours to drive there from Fresno. And we need to beef up this ride with the "Fresno People" contengient. (Most of the riders in that group are East Bay area, and Sac.)

Hollister is a great first ride place or people getting into the sport. Trails are marked and well maintained. Nearly all are one-way (though keep your eyes out for morons) and anything that's 2-way a couple of trucks could go by each other. And they have great facilities. You'll see a ton of MCs up there. It's about the opposite of Pismo. More MCs than quads, and they eat it up. They can generally get around the park in 1/2 the time a quad can.

If you're into techical riding Miami (where powerstroke mentioned) is a rockin place. Note: it's best not to go up there without going with someone who's ridden there before, and has experience up there. Some trail markings can be VERY misleading. (Green trails that are worse than the black diamonds at Hollister.) But they are doing some MAJOR work up there. That's not to say that there isn't anything easy there. There is.

As for the 250EX: great starter bike. Has gears so they learn that, but the auto clutch makes it a little easier. It has decent power (hauled my 280# butt around Pismo decently enough.) Lower maintenance with the shaft drive. It seems to be the bike of choice for the 10-15 y/o crowd in the group we run in. The suspension is lacking (but that will be the case on anything in this class. Suspension = $$.) A full size rider (mean tall adult) would probably avoid it. I rode with someone last year who rode his stepdaughter's 250EX on a ride. He found out how bad the suspension lacks...though he comes from the MC side of the world (street [Harley] and off-road [Suzuki DRZ-400]). One ride tore him up pretty good.

"Fresno People"

Hehehe... the "Dublin person" will be joining the Hollister group too! I think we're leaving Friday afternoon. Don't forget your pumpkin to carve... this ain't all about the kids ya know.. haha Kids will most likely do a little "trailer trick or treating" on Saturday night....super, load em up with candy then make em go to bed... hmmm.. don't think that's going to work Should be a good sized group... can't wait!
