Its about 15-20 miles north of Jonesville. Whenever you come into Jonesville on Hwy 84 you need to turn north on Hwy 124 to Harrisonburg. You will travel about 12 miles on Hwy 124 then you will run into Hwy 8. Hwy 8 runs through Harrisonburg. You will take a right onto Hwy 8, go through Harrisonburg, go over the bridge toward Sicily Island. You will travel for approx 6 miles and you will come into a small town (I mean small, only 1 store)called Leland. Leland is located Between Sicily Island and Harrisonburg. You will turn left beside the store in Leland. I dont know the name of the Hwy at this point. But you will travel approx 4-5 miles, be looking for a gravel road on the lefthand side with a small sign that reads Sicily Island Gravel Pit. You turn onto this road and you will go for approx 300 yards and come to a Y in the road. You will see a sign that reads Catahoula Recreation. That is what your looking for. I hope this helps. It sounds confusing but its pretty simple once you make your first trip.

Shaunon,
I dont know of any that have camped out before. But it is possible to camp for sure.
KFX,
There is some pretty steep hills to be made at the entrance to the sand.
