Default Place to ride in Michigan

Looking for a good place to ride in Michigan in early spring and summer. We are looking for a place semi secluded since we are testing a new quad. Can be private trails/course, public or even a private land. The quad is like a Rhino size & weight so it is more the weekend warrior not the extreme jumps, ramps... We are looking for some thing in lower Michigan.

Any ideas please let me know

All the ORV TRAILS are limited to no more than 50" width. If it's wider than that you need to find an ORV ROUTE to drive on. All the maps are here.

JUMBOFRANK,
Gave you very good advice..Any Off Road Vehicle WIDER than 50 inches in width MUST operate in either a Scramble area or on an ORV ROUTE..Not a whole lot of ORV ROUTES in Michigan. The only place in Lower Michigan where you can legally ride would be the MOUNDS in Genesee County..Its about an hour and a half from the Michigan/Ohio border and consists of about 200 acres of assorted terrains.

I would check with the guys at ATVOFFROAD.NET and ask the same questions in there. Many of guys have operated on Routes there and can shed some direction for you.

Have any of you tried an ATV ride with overnight camping in Michigan? If so where did you go. I'm going out west in late summer but would like to try things out first and hopefully lighten my load of things I don't need.

I don't think camping next to the trail is legal but there are some campgrounds that the trails go right to. You can camp at the Mack Lake Campround and ride Bull Gap Trail from there. There's also the Meadows Campground on the the Meadows Trail. And a connector trail goes across M-33 to connect The Meadows and Bull Gap Trails.

I think Mio, Michigan has a system like that. I heard a lot of good things about it. I will be making a trip up there once the weather gets nicer.

The trails I mentioned are just south of Mio. You can actually ride ATVs from the trails into Mio, Luzerne, and McKinley for gas and food. The gas station at South Branch closed. The main trailhead for Bull Gap is on M-33 right after you pass The Pink Store. You can also ride a trail to The Pink Store and get gas there.

That's a real bad idea. The DNR in the UP that I have talked to will let you get away with about anything except beer and acting stupid. On second thought drinking beer while driving most anything is acting stupid. A lawn mower and a beer or two (not three....) are OK in my book.
