'06 450 won't start
 

Rhino has been sitting outside for about 2 months without being cranked. Went to crank it over the holidays to let it run, but it wouldn't stay running. It fired up and ran for a few seconds, but now it won't fire back up. Thinking it could be a fuel supply issue as I would guess it burned the fuel in the system, but not getting any more.

Fuel level was low, but still had some in it. Also, put more in it thinking the pickup wasn't as low as I thought it would be.

Pulled the fuel line from the top of the tank and not much came out of hose.

Any ideas out there? Didn't check the plug yet as I think it may be a fuel supply issue.

How cold is it? There could be ice in the lines,

Rhino is outside and house is on salt water...don't think much corrosion has happened.

Don't think I flooded it as I have never flooded it before and let it sit for a few hours after the first attempt.

Going to check the inline fuel filter (i'm assuming that is the little black piece inline from the fuel tank. Is the fuel pump located behind the passenger seat? That cast metal thing?

Is the fuel pump electric? Can I hear it when the key is turned on?

Also, haven't had a chance to check the plug, but is the proper NGK plug a DPR8EA?

OK, went to Yamaha dealer and got a spark plug

They also said to clean the jets out. How would one do this?

Said to take the bowl off and soak in carb cleaner....does that sound right?

Trying to get this thing ready tonight, if possible. Going out of town tomorrow for NYE.

The rhino is notorious for the inline fuel filter clogging up. Try to put some fresh fuel in it and change the filter. Pump the gas about 5-8 times and then try to start it up with the throttle closed. I bet it fires up. I would try this before diving into the carb.

I work part time at West Marine and bought a few inline filters (mainly because I didn't know the fuel line size, but also so one will hopefully fit where it needs to go. Also, two of them are clear/see through.

Also bought a fuel bulb primer (might not use it) just in case I need to force some fuel through.

Carb is my last resort. Hoping it won't go that far.

Got it running last night.

Must be a loose clamp or pinhole somewhere in the fuel line as the fuel drained from the line back into the fuel tank and couldn't get primed.

Put a primer bulb and pumped the gas through, after replacing the filter, and she fired right up.

I feel great anytime after I get something figured out. Inline fuel filters are something I used to put in the glove box...just in case!

We now have an 08 with EFI
