Hi I normally post in the honda forum but ran out of things to read so I read some yamaha posts and was happy and impressed with the honesty and maturity. Instead of saying honda 400ex sucks most complemented it's good points. Any way my wife has a blaster and it's fun but we would like to increase the power to keep it closer to my 400ex on the dunes. What mods really make a big difference other than tearing into the engine?

If it is all stock, i would say just get a pipe, and rejet the carb.

If you want to spend 900 on it. The CT240 kit would get it moving.

I've heard these kits will go around 80!

If you don't want to spend alot of money you can get some poor man's horsepower......Reduce the weight.you can remove front fenders, autolube (be sure to make a block off plate and mix gas),aluminium bars/wheels,take off the light, remove the tors system, any unneccessary wiring, parking brake. After that is done look into a pipe. My fmf really woke up my blaster. Also since you ride dunes and won't be seeing alot of water a k&n air filter w/no airbox would definitly help.don't forget to rejet.

Don't forget the paddles they really helped my blaster

Weight savings is the biggest factor for the Blaster. Every pound you can loose off the rear axle like tires, wheels, and hubs translates into a seven pound savings. Just got a set of Skat-Trak gliders in the 18x9.5x8 size and they weigh next to nothing. They also are a six paddle tire with shorter paddles. This would give you better wheel speed. I use Douglas blue label alum. rims for the sand. You could loose a lot of weight going to a shaved front tire also. Aftermarket lightweight hubs will save you about a pound apiece. Pipes are a good idea. Will help performance and save about five pounds. Taking off front bumper and foot peg nerfs will save about five pounds.
