Once the quad is started, the battery just acts a regulator, to make sure that voltage and current stays at safe levels, so w/o the battery, the headlights would work, but if there was a power spike, they could blow. That's what is to the best of my knowledge anyway, but come to think about it, LT's and 250r's never had batteries, did they? I'm not sure, since I never owned one.

Maybe they would be like Banshee headlights, The higher the rev the brighter the lights?

I'm sure it has a regulator. Just like a automobile altrenator, it keeps the voltage below 13.8 volts. I would imagine that the bike has one of these since it comes with a battery. The battery wouldn't last too long if you were constantly trying to put 15-20 volts into it at high revs.

so just maybe I wasn't thinking straight, I suppose if you did take the battery off too along with the starter, maybe 30 lbs.............(thanks for reminding me)

But, IF you did happen to stall it,,,,,,,,,or you have one of the starts where the quad is off and you have to jump on and start, what would you rather do? I think it maybe quicker to punch the button while getting on the quad..........just me..................

Personally, I'd rather have my quad weigh 30lbs less than have that magic button... I learned to ride on a 200X so I'm not spoiled with electric start

Guys I really hate to burst your bubble, but you're not saving 30 lbs by eliminating a small battery and a starter. If you save twelve you'll be doing good. Think about that for a minute. Yamaha's saving a few grams here and a few ounces there, aluminum this and titanium that, they ain't puttin' some big ol tractor battery and pickup truck starter in it. Yes I know, you read it on the internet that some guy read it somewhere and it's thirty pounds. And I took pictures of Bigfoot today. Sorry to bust up the party. You could loose more weight other than the starter and the battery by putting the kickstart on because you could also loose the starter gear and oneway bearing which would also take weight mass off the crank for higher revs. This could be trouble!!! SLIM

its 20lb not 30lb that you lose.
i'm also interested in how the lights work with out the battery.
also how hard to you think it would be to start?

The article I read stated a 30lb weight savings. (another off-road site -- pretty reputable at that)

The light works because of the stator (same thing that produces the juice for the spark)

Probably just as hard to start as the WR
