The only real way to know how much weight you will save is to put the kick starter in and weigh the parts that come off of the bike. This will give you exact weight savings and not just an approximated guess. We know it will be between about twenty to thirty pounds savings which in my opinion is good either way. So when someone gets one and does this please post for all to see. Thanks, slim

Well, regardless of what the actual savings are-- it is nice to have the option. I personally would do the swap for a 10lb savings...

I had a dealer tell me the kick starter conversion would be a few months out. That was the same dealer that said the 13:1 piston and top end gasket set would not be availabe until October - I found them in stock @ another dealer.

I'm waiting for the crank stopper (#11 on the microfiche - keeps the kicker from going to far up). With the starter motor and battery out, the machine will loose about ~12 lbs. Any of you guys that have 'em, go and loosen the battery hold down bracket and lift the f'n battery - it ain't that heavy. I've been told that the starter motor weighs about 6 lbs. The starter gear is not needed w/o electric start, but it is housed on an appendage of the crankcase cover. I don't know which case cover will replace it. I'm using a kicker from a YZ and will do the plastic/fender mod. Regardless of kicker arm used, I believe you'll need to do the plastic mod.

Without the starting system removed, I've already shaved about 17 lbs. off the bike. There are still miles of wiring to remove, but I don't think there will be 20-30 lbs difference in going to kick start.

Ridley is right. You save 8 lbs with the kick starter. My YFZ right off the showroom was 372 wet w/ full tank. I weighed an MX-ready R and it was 354 full.

Good advice, Ridley. Stalling on the track will definately lose you the race in most cases. When I get one, I'll probably enjoy it in stock form, except for pipe-jet-airbox mod, for a while. Then maybe after I've had her for a while, she'll start losing weight!

Im suppose to to pay money to lose simple push button start and gain kick start. Good deal!

I dunno about yall, but I had the old yz400f when it first came out. That sucker was a MOTHER F**KER to kick over, even with the comp release. I have rode a YZ450F and it is the same.. There is no way I would lose that nice button to save 10 lbs that makes NO DIFFERENCE at all. Thats just my 2 cents..
