DSAPP, have you read any of the initial reviews of the YFZ450? Perhaps you should, some of them have interviews with the Yamaha engineers where they state the YFZ being a high-performance race bike and the Raptor being just a sport quad. It should definitely have more ponies than the Raptor, stock.

I think the dirt bike has a 41mm carb while the new quad has a 39mm. If that's true , it would lose a few more ponies. My FCR40 on my 440 quad sure made a big difference.

Well, I just read about the dirt bike's flat sided carb being a 39 not a 41. Oh well, I'm sure this thing will rip. I had a full LSR chassis CRF450 motored quad and the power was awesome stock. The Yam shouldn't be much different. I've got the first white and red one coming to my dealer.

The thing is going to come choked...a couple free mods and your going to add 10hp. 1st toss the baffle out of the muffler, grind down the throttle stop (only allows 3/4 throttle) and toss the airbox cover and go up on the jets. After these simple and free mods it should put down 42 to 45 hp.

I own a Raptor and a YZF 426.

I can't wait for this quad.

Don't worry about torque. The big advantage the YZF and CRF have over the 2 strokes is the broad powerband and torque down low.

It will definately rev faster than a Raptor. But finally a real motor in a quad. Even if it is the WR version......

If it only had reverse......

THE NEW YAMAHA YZF450 will be 45 HP at the crank and 41 hp at the wheels...

And it will need 1 more tooth at the front gear and then it will haul sand...

It is detuned a bit. the motor crank stroke is 1 mm less so that the cc would be 439 CC so they can race them.

(sorry David if I missed it) So, a Raptor with say 34 hp @ 397 lbs would be 11.67 lb/hp. A Zooki 400 with 30 hp @ 370 lbs would come out at 12.33 lb/hp. So, the 350 lb 450 even at 31 hp would beat them both with 11.29 lb/hp. I know I'm missing the C-Dales and GasGas's. For the sake of argument if it's 38 hp that would be 9.21 lb/hp, a huge advantage over the others, or the same as a Raptor with 43.1 horsepower. But that's the calculator world, the real world where torque curves etc come into play change everything. You're welcome, for me sucking the life out of this discussion. If it is the best power to weight of any quad procuced that means its not as fast as the CANONDALE top of the line, but then it isnt produced any more. and the Quadzilla is not produced any more. but the PREDATOR IS PRODUCED and what horsepower do they put out and what do they weigh? 415 pounds DRY. How much horsepower?

1. Suzuki Quadzilla LT500 ---------> 51srwhp / 390lbs = 0.1308 horsepower per pound
2. GasGas HP 300 --------------------> 43srwhp / 386 = 0.1114 horsepower per pound
3. Cannondale Cannibal -------------> 38srwhp / 375lbs = 0.1013 horsepower per pound
4. Yamaha Banshee ------------------> 37srwhp / 386lbs = 0.0959 horsepower per pound
5. Polaris Predator -------------------> 39srwhp / 415lbs = 0.0940 horsepower per pound
6. Yamaha Raptor 660R -------------> 37srwhp / 399lbs = 0.0927 horsepower per pound
7. Bombardier DS650 ----------------> 43srwhp / 470lbs = 0.0916 horsepower per pound
8. Kawasaki Tecate 4 ----------------> 31srwhp / 339lbs = 0.0915 horsepower per pound

SOOOOO it has to have more hp per pound than the BANSHEE or 0.0959 hp per pound times 350 equals at LEAST MORE HP than 34 HP
and if you include the gas gas 300 that is 0.1114 times 350 or AT LEAST 39 horsepower.

and if you include the QUADZILLA that would be 0.1308 * 350 = 46 hp

so it HAS TO HAVE LESS THAN 46 HP! because they specifically said MORE POWER than any Quad NOW BEING PRODUCED!

if it had 47 hp they could have said AND WOULD HAVE SAID more power THAN ANY QUAD IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD! because 47 hp in a 350 pound frame would make it the most powerful quad ever built, in terms of power to weight ratio
but they did not say that, they said more than ANY quad NOW BEING PROCUCED!

therefore I can say it will be less than 46 horsepower and more than 39 horsepower.
SO I SHALL SAY 41 HORSepower at the rear wheel, which aint bad, and with pipes and stuff you may get it up to 45 hp.

I don't think if you get all the options available you still won't get 51 horsepower out of it, cause if they did sell you all the yamaha approved parts and it hit 51 horsepower and someone got killed on it Yamaha would have a gaggle of treial atitornies swooping down starting a clazs acshion lawesuit, for anyone EVER HURT on this DANGED INFERNAL DESTRUCTION MACHINE that is MORE POWERFUL THAN ANY FOUR WHEELER EVER BUILT.

That reminds me, how is a treial atitorney and a slug similar?
When the salt of the earth get anywhere near them, they shrivel and die.

Oh, wait, this is not a joking matter. That is the reason your ATV prices are so high already but that is another story.

so, not too bad for a light little thing...
It will be a great quad.

If they (bike makers) can sell a R1...GSXRs, CBRs, with 150 HP that weigh the same as these quads, what's the problem? Even CR 500s CRF450s etc.
Wouldn't it be great if people to responsibility for their own acshion (as DuneFlea might say). Hope they don't limit HP becasue they're afraid of law suits.
Thanks for the math DuneFlea!
