Default piston broke, why?

I have a 2000 Blaster with a pipe, K&n filter, and a block-off kit. The skirt on the piston broke off and shattered. What would cause this? Its never been rebuilt, never had any problems. What side of the case should I take off? It looks like the flywheel side. I'm waiting on a manual, but trying to get a head start.

I think that your engine ran lean or had cold seizure.

I was thinking a jet problem but was't sure. What do you mean by "cold seizure"?

Cold seizure is when the piston expands quicker than the cylinder. It usually happens when you don't let your engine warm up when its cold. In most cases it happens when the temperature outside is cold like during the winter so..... its more likely to be your jetting than cold seizure. Oh yeah, did you just put the mods on then it happened? If yes the jetting is incorrect.

I think cold seizure is out, it was around 65 and 2 hours into the ride. I would say the mods have been on at least a year. I've checked the plug after almost every ride and it never looked like a jetting problem.

Did you have trouble starting it before it blew up on you? seems like if it's a 2000, and never had a rebuild, that's quite a long time without a rebuild. Don't know how many hours you had on it tho. Check your airbox too, if you were in dust or sand and the filter was on wrong, that'd be you prob right there. Not sayin you don't know what you're doin, but happens to the best of us.

Maybe your seals or gaskets went bad causing an air leak.

Wear on the piston will cause it.
Just a guess, but it was the intake side wasn't it?
