Default SEMI-BUILDING A RAPTOR..NEED SUJESTIONS!!

I just sold my 87 honda 250X and i am planning on taking the money and sorta doing a lil engine work to my raptor. I am def wanting to put a cam, valve spring, and maybe a 11:1 piston. Kind of looking for teh best to buy and the best deals. i am looking to pull horsepower in the low 50's. I live in east tennessee and dont exactly have lots of wide open spaces, so its more woods trail riding. I want something with some UMPPP, but not osmething that i cant control. I have priced stuff from ALBA, powroll, CT, Racers Edge, and a few other places. Need all the help i can get, and any more info

The additional bore will not make a significant increase in power.....but you may need a slight overbore if the engine has a lotta hours. Stage 1 hotcam and 10.75/1 JE is an easy solution too make a mild Raptor.
What do you mean "something you can't control"?

Craycraft Racing has the best prices that I've found for Raptor parts, and the owner posts on these boards, too. I just ordered a 11:1 piston and GYT-R clutch kit from them and I've never heard anything bad about Craycraft at all.

Sounds like you are doing what I'm doing-- JE 11:1, Stage 1 Hotcam, CT Sonic pipe kit, K&N Pro Flow kit, Edelbrock Quicksilver carb...

well guys.. what i mean by something i can handle. I am not exactly blessed with all that tall genes in the family. I am 5'7" and 140 lbs. So, something with a heck of a lot of power, i would be outta control. LOL. I was thinking about a 11:1 piston but if a 10.75:1 would work better. The main idea is def a cam and valve springs. I have everything else. I ahve a full Yoshi system and a K&N air filter.

They're the same thing... when people are refering to the JE 11:1, it is in actuality a 10.75:1 piston.

The stock rods are breaking on 10.75:1 too, or just 12:1 stock bores??? Doesn't make sense that stock rods would break on just stock bores instead of people running 686-kits. Is it standard practice to go up to a stronger rod with just a 686?

Alaska, Let me know how the Quicksilver carbs work. I've been told they have issues and I would like to know.

I won't know how it works until August (when I get a chance to install it). I actually don't even have it in my possession yet, but last week I *finally* got an e-mail that it had shipped (I ordered it in April).

Continued failure in my attempts to jet my carbs this winter convinced me to get something else-- the Quicksilver being way cheaper than the FCRs ($500 from Barnum's Pro) so that's what I'm going to do. It might not be the best choice for built engines, but next year I'm going to get the Craycraft 686-sig kit and call it good.

So what are these issues that I need to keep an eye out for???

I know i am puttin way to much thought in this whole process but , i have figured out the piston thing and i think i am gonna just go with a 11:1 piston. Now i need to figure out who to buy the cam from. Powroll has a race cam for $179.95, White Brothers for $155, Stage 1 or 2 Hot Cam for $124.95, or a full race Web Cam for 159.99. Does anyone have any suggestions on this side of the fence, or any other suggestions. You all have been more help than you can imagine.
