What makes a belt glaze on a grizzly and what gear should I trail ride in Low or High. I have a 2003 Grizzly and I think my belt sliped a little today on a gravel road no mud no water.

Not sure about the belts, but when u go down a trail u should go in high. Its like a truck 4h and 4L, So when u are rideing down a trail u need to be he high gear, if u are in low u will wind out your gears alot more and its harder on things than it would be in low gear. so i would say keep it in high unitl u are in a tight spot then put it in low range.

When you let off of the gas the engine breaks thru the wheels and v-belt. When you drive at a high speed and just let off the gas to let the engine do all of the breaking this can cause the belt to glaze. Also if you have a tensioner problem in your secondary sheave it will cause the belt to slip and glaze. If you try to use the ATV while there is excessive mud, water, or dirt in your belt housing-guess what---glaze. And if your sheaves overheat due to a blocked airduct to your crankcase...glaze. And age time and wear can also glaze a belt. The best thing to do is inspect the belt when you change the oil. It is not hard to do and should only take half a hour.
