i just had my starter go out on my 2001 raptor and i let it go for a long time knowing that it was probably going to be expensive but the parts cost surprised me at approximately 260.00 does that sound about right?i am concerned that this one will not last because i am hearing of the starters going out in 2002 and 2003 models and i was told that my parts were(updated) and if they are a newer version will they be likely to last longer.thanks for any input.

 

Mines an 02 and it was 100 dollars labor plus the cost of the LA designs one way bearing and a new sprocket. Well worth it tho

 

WILD- mine was totally fried and i trust the mechanic that does all my work so i guess thats just the way it goes but that cost really surprised me.i suppose that i should just be happy to be able to afford to get it fixed but what a bad design flaw by yamaha .you would think that they would have done more testing but with the poor design of the 2001 tranny and the starter it would seem thay they were more concerned with a production deadline, oh well what can you do.

 

Ya what can you do ya know. How much was it to fix it all up? She gonna be up and running for next weekend? I may be wrong but I believe the yamaha design had one spring around all the bearings where the LA designs one has 2 spring PER bearing. WAY better design, why couldnt yamaha thing of that.

 

WILD- yes it will be ready for next weekend in fact i am taking it to florence tommorow to see which gearing and tires run the best up comp so i will be at my best for labor day weekend.me and the wife and a few friends will be dialing a few quads to make sure they are performing as good as is possible so we can be at least some what competive for labor day weekend.i have said before that drag racing is not the majority of what we do but if you are going to do something why not give your best.the cost of getting the starter fixed on the raptor with labor came to about 360.00 dollars and yes i could have saved some money by doing the work myself but i find that it is sometimes easier to let the pros handle it.

 

I totally agree with everything you said dune. I got my rappy dialed in pretty good right now for whats only done to it. I brought my rappy to the guys that did it and then 2 hours later they called my dad and I and said its all done come get it. Awesome service. Well I ll cya there
