Ive got the sparks pipe which is ceramic coated, the coating cuts down on the heat drastically. It stays hot a while after the bike is shut off though.

ceramic coating doesn't stick to the stainless steel/titanium YFZ header very well...

The heat tape would probably be a good fix. We use it on our pulling tractors to help keep the engine compartment cool, and it seems to work. Kinda stinks the first time you heat it up though.

I am not a big fan of the heat tape. If you hold the heat in the pipe it is going to heat up the mid-pipe and silencer. The heat has to go somewhere.

My YZ426 does the same thing. My buddy's YFZ will glow red (start it up at night and let it idle for about 3 minutes. It will be glowing!) He ended up re-jetting it (and it is still HOT!)

Try jetting up one first.

Emissions??? Are you sure??? NOx (emission) is produced at elevated temperatures not at lower temperatures. If they are trying to control CO then being lean would make sense but, typically CO isn't an emission issue. . . NOx is always an issue.

Let me know if you have other information, I am interested. Seems strange they would jet them lean from the Factory but, they sure seem to be doing that!

keeping the heat in the pipe is exactly why ceramic coating and wrap are GOOD things, hot air moves faster!

Hot air moves faster???

Heat rises sure but, we aren't talking about a chimney or a hot air balloon.

Heat expands & cold contracts - these are mechanical truths

If the pipe cools the exhaust as it exits the head the same CF (cubic foot) of volume now contains more molecules of exhaust gasses so - flow is increased through the same diameter exit by cooling the exhaust.

I am no engineer and don't wish to stir the pot. I think my logic is sound but, if I am wrong don't worry about me. . . I have eaten crow many times and developed quite a taste for it!
