If I'm doing mx I don't hardly ever preload (no time coming outa corners) plus it wears you out faster. Also in mx "maximum air" = maximum lap times, I learned to stay on the throttle through the face of the jumps instead of spiking the throttle and peloading. You fly far/low this way, passing a guy while looking up at him is a different experience. If your doing play riding though, gun it up to about 1 second from the launch, chop the throttle and press down w/ your legs/arms as hard as you can. Then punch it at the lip of the jump (you have to learn to use the rear brake in air to be able to succesfully do this). It sounds complicated on paper but its easy cheeze in real life.

Hold the joystick and then flick it forward right at the lip of the jump..........................
