The YFZ is more of a MX racer.

The 450R will be more of the same as above.

The better trail bikes are Raptors, KFX or Z400(or the artic cat DVX 400). They are the best trail bikes available since they have reverse and what not.

The YFZ would be ok, but watching people pushing and lifting on their bikes to get them turned around on trails is very entertaining from my Rappy.

Mine does great on trails out here in CA. More mud in PA might dampen things a bit. I like it more than my Z400 because of the suspension for trails. The only thing is some trails here are narrow and go both ways. Sometimes reverse would help there when someone comes up on you in the other direction. Shoot, most of them have reverse though. The YFZ w/ a pipe, cam mod, 13:1 comp piston & 14/41 gearing is an insane trail machine. I have one and know this for a fact.

Lower a Raptor in the front and rear and it's as stable as any bike out there.

$55 to lower the front.....

$0 to lower the back.....

for trails, and im not saying this b/c i own it, but my personal experience, i rode both b4 i bought them and the z400,kfx,dvk is not a superior quad to the yfz, but for trails..... is by FAR more comfortable... it has the necessary suspension, reverse, and a nice powerband. the yfz has better suspension, i didnt really think the powerband was as smooth, but VERy quick, my deciding factor for the kfx over the yfz was the comfort factor... who wants to ride an uncomfortable quad for the trails...the thing wasnt built for comfort it was built for sheer speed, and for the price differnce... i couldnt justify it.

the raptor doesnt need to be lowered... i think it is a wonderful trail machine... i prefer other quads over it but it is a great machine..we dont ride to many narow trails... (ALASKA is a BIG place....) so we just widen it and bam you got your self a monster..i ride the raptor alot when it is actully working.

One need only understand how to ride to avoid the need to dismount their machine or use a reverse gear. If I want reverse, I'll use it in my cage.
