Which stock Raptor parts won't endure a MX season?

Does anyone have a running list of Raptor parts which will not last a whole MX race season (B-Class races, 4 lap motos)?

I was wondering if the following stock parts can be counted on for a full amateur race season:

1. Front A-Arms (Upper and Lower)
2. Rear Swing Arm
3. Shocks (front / rear)
4. Frame what hasn't been reinforced
5. Rear axle
6. Stock Rims

Any advice would be great!

I replaced all the stuff you're asking about before I raced a full amateur season (all of about 12 races:-). The bearings in one of my front hubs were totally destroyed within a year of mixed trail/track. I rode the Raptor in mud, water, and snow in before I got the MX bug. I also used front wheel spacers for a few months, I'm sure they contributed to the bearing failure. Other than the hub bearings, I don't know how much abuse the stock suspension will take. I'd be most worried about the stock axle first and the upper a-arms next, depending on your weight.

If you wreck hard enough, you're going to bend something. If you race often enough, you're going to want to upgrade those components anyhow.

My advice would be to run a race or two and see where the weak points are. I would not hesitate to take my stock raptor onto a track.

If you are in the B-class I'm assuming your not a beginner. And if thats the case your going to push the stock suspension waaay over its limits. The rear axle is weak(but what stock axle isn't for mx?), and with the high center of gravity the rappy has I think the most important thing you could do for it would be as follows:

*+2 A-arms(with aftermarket shocks)
*reputable aftermarket rear axle
*aftermarket rear shock(again your choice)
*and if cash allows, Beadlock wheels(again reput. brand)

I think that the swingarm "should" hold well, but if your serious about mxing it a +2 swingarm will REALLY help. The frames are known for cracking in certain areas, and the stock CV carb bogs pretty badly for rythm sections(whoops, stadium style jumps, etc.) The first person to respond to you is probably the best for mx info pertaining to the raptor. UBETRUN seems to have been doing it for a while now, and is very informative about the raptor and what it takes to make it function as an mxer. But I do have to say(and I know you probably don't wanna hear it, but...) that there are MUCH better platforms to start from. Especially now with the Yfz's and the Trx. The raptor can be made to be an Mx'er, but you'll be doing alot more work to get it there, and I don't think(again personal opinion) it will ever be as good as the new breed of Mx quads. Good luck

To be clear, I'm just an amateur with some extra spending money. I learned a lot my first year but I am certainly not tearing up the track. Last year, I was thrilled to come in anywhere but last in the C class. Nearer the end of the season, I had a solid lock on the middle of the pack even if I did something stupid like fall off or forget to put my goggles on my face at the starting line:-) This year, I hope to limit my rookie mistakes and I should be able to finish in the top 3rd of the C class. If I'm careful and don't break my bones or quad, I'm hoping to have a shot at some C class podium finishes in the 05 season. At my age, I try to have realistic goals for my MX progress. I'll be 40 in 05 and it will be twice as much fun to beat guys half my age:-) Some day maybe, I'll go over to the old man's class and race some of those retired A-class riders.

There are folks on here that MX raced Raptors waaay more than me although most of them jumped ship and bought YFzs. Get input from as many people as possible, it will save you time and money in the long run.

The blood bank said I was looking too pale, I have to stagger my donations to Craycraft Racing a little further apart:-) Seriously, some exotic parts are starting to gather in Texas. I told Bob I wasn't ready for the motor and he should take his time. If it's all back together and mostly tuned by the end of March, I'll be ready for the MX season to kick off here on the east coast.

Carmelo15, I started a thread to discuss the possibility of a YFZ450 making it through a MX race season. Check that topic out too.
