Raptor 660 (2004) Won't Move!!
#1
Well I am one unhappy camper and I am not sure how to pursue from this point. Here is the scoop! I rode for only about 5 minutes today and had a pretty bad experience. I got hung up in some heavy brush and tried to put it in reverse. When I pulled in the clutch, it felt like the quad was still pulling forward. I managed to get the thing into reverse and eventually get turned around. In doing so it would not disengage and kept stalling. Once I finally got out of the mess I headed back up the hill and it stopped half way up. Needless to say I didn't have any rope to tow it out and I pushed my heart out for 3 hours until finally my buddy got a rope and saved the day. What would cause this? I don't have many hours on it, I would say approx. 60. There was no warning that this was about to happen IE. starting to slip or loss of power. I can now go thru all of the gears without pulling in the clutch. The quad does make the clicking sound like it is engaging into gear but it still doesn't move....???.. What should I look at? I called a dealer and he said it sounded like a linkage problem. He said that the clutch plates shouldn't of burned up that quick. If any one can give me some advise it would be greatly appreciated. I can't afford $85.00 an hour for someone to just diagnose the problem.
Thanks.

My 2001 did this 2 years ago and I thought that the tranny had blown. So I tore the whole engine/tranny apart and every thing was fine except it seemed to be stuck between The reverse and foward gears. It looked like the reverse lever inside the tranny was bent a little. I straitened it out and got it to shift while apart. I put it back together and it has worked ever since.
good luck.
good luck.

When I go thru the gears I can get it into reverse. At least the light is telling me its in reverse.... Were you able to get into reverse? (and still not move anywhere)

If you lift the back tire off the ground will the engine turn them. Do they go faster when you change gears. Try adjusting your clutch. Checked to see if the clutch lever moves down by the trans.

my 03 raptor was acting up simular to yours,it would lock up and not move at all but the engine would still be running fine untill i let go of the clutch and istead of moving it would just die out, it was also making a clicking nose when it was running. it ended up being the reverse gear that went bad and shreded up.

Thanks for all of your feedback!! When I lifted the back off of the ground the tires were spinning. I could stop them with my hand in any gear. I took the clutch cover off (big pain in the neck!!) and found the clutch to be burned up..... This really upsets me, due to the fact that its only 10 months old with approx. 60 hours on the thing. It never should of happened!! Thanks for the posts. I appreciate everyone that responded.
My conclusion is the same as Raptor Owner's. The clutch was out of adjustment from the day I picked it up from the dealer. I think Yamaha should back their product for more then 6 months and feel that this is something that was definately not my fault. I support Yamaha and think they make a great product, as you would notice if you looked in my garage. I own the Raptor (04), a Warrior (01), and a YZ250 (04). I have given them alot of money and think that they should back me up with my replacement of the clutch. (I can hope can't I)
Thanks again guys for all of your posts.
