Default ******YFZ450 HELP******

While racing some putz today, I looked back at him and noticed white smoke coming from my bike. I look down and the fan, radiator, and everything on the front of the motor was dripping with oil. I shut it down, wiped all the oil off and turned the motor over to see if i could see where its coming from. The oil was shooting out of some hole on the front of the motor, towards the top. Evidently a plug or bolt or something fell out. I have no clue what goes there. I went on Yamahas website and cant find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

It's called the decompression plug. This has happened to many others just like yourself. There is a product out that replaces the factory one and will not fall out. I can't remember the name of the company. This product in on my short list of purchases for my YFZ.

First thing you need to do is sign up on y f z central.com and do some reading on your maching. After an hour of reading on that site you would have already known about this prior to it happening to you. You will be able to find the aftermarket plug you are looking for on that site too.

I would link you to the site but apparently we're not allowed to mention the name on here for some reason. Lord only knows why????

Most likely you motor is fine. As long as you didn't run it any longer after you lost all of your oil.

It is the decompression plug I think, it is common, there are a lot of places that sel billet and so forth plugs for it, the stock is just a no good rubber one from what I've read.

yfz central.com has loads of info on it.

Sounds like your decompression plug. This is located just above the exhaust outlet. There should be a metal plug in this hole. If there is not and your bike is a 2004 then you need to get an aftermarket billet plug, available at any good shop. This is a very common problem and there are tons of posts on this forum about this problem. Yamaha was even smart enough to correct this problem in 2005........my 2 cents.

You can get those decompression plugs for $9.99 plus shipping on ebay. Just go to ebay and search "decompression plug". Good Luck
