hey...my friend just got a 1978 yamaha dirtbike...it is a 171cc 2stroke...it needs some work and i was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about it?...even if its just the model name any help would be appreciated...thanks

well...i talked to my uncle today...went over to my friends house and checked for a spark...none...so maybe we'll get lucky and thats all that will be wrong with the engine. yesterday we also found out that the carb was just leaking out all the fuel we put into it...my uncle said to tap it a few times with the end of a screwdriver and if that didnt work take it apart again and clean it...any other opinions or advice?...thanks

we got it started today!!! connected all the wires that were cut...the guy told us it ran with them like that...apparently not...ha...we it will run for about 5 seconds or so...the last time it ran longer. but not we need a new kickstarter cause that one is stripped:-/...anybody know if any other model kickstarters will work?...theres a 1980 DT 175 being parted out on ebay...theres a kickstarted but it is different. also...does anyone know any good parts suppliers for old bikes?...thanks

I looked for you, its on bike badit, i cant give you a link cause it doesnt work on that sight... but its... 46$ for the kickstart assmbly..

thanks alot for the site and the link...ill tell him about it next time i see him...yeah it is a fun project[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif[/img]...first thing either of us have ever really been able to take apart and see how it works...its pretty interesting
