no, there is a TDC for the exhaust stroke and one for the compression. You want the I lined up on the combustion. If you take off the spark plug and put ur hand over the hole, have your buddy turn the engine over and when you feel air coming out, you will be on the compression stroke, so look for the I on that stroke.

raptor tranny said this "watch for the intake rockers to go down. This means you are on the intake stroke and the piston is going downward. The next timing mark will be TOP DEAD CENTER between the compression and combustion (power) stroke." but said nothing about taking out the sparkplug, byt he way thanks alot caliraptor.

that quote from raptor tranny is right on. Im just telling you about the spark plug thing as a tip, its a common thing to do when looking for the compression TDC on engines. Your gonna have to go to the dealer for the tool, if I was home I would send you mine but Im at school.

i will get this tool eventually but i can just look to see the rocker arms are down then look for the "I" mark and this woul signify that im at TDC. It gets real busy right now with school. It would be another time when i would get the tool espicially with all the hlidays coming up. U've been a great help thanks man.

new update: I did the valves fine with my friend and my quad runs well again. My friend said that I may need to get a new head gasket because he saw that wen i was starting it, the smoke seemed to be coming out of there. Can I put a new head gasket in myself or is it difficult. Also, how much are they and where could i buy a good one. Since this quad is an 01 it is proboly in need of a new one.

Man, i am having simalar problems with mine. You need a valve adjustment, maybe new clutch and friction plates, and lack of oil pressure could be a problem too.The clutch and friction plates could be the reson why it isnt pulling as hard, and not doin a wheelie when you want it to as easy.I am selling my 660 though.
