Jetting help. Don't know what's wrong...
I recently got a pro-flow kit for my 01 Warrior. Since I already had a HMF slipon installed (with a 147.5 jet), after doing some research, I found that most people with a modded airbox and slipon exhaust run a 150 jet. So, I bought a 150 jet and installed it in the carb (as well as some new carb gaskets) and now I have a problem.
My quad idles way too fast (if after trying every possible idle screw configuration). Even when I slip it in the gear, the quad takes off and slowly satrs rolling on it's own. All the sudden, it's getting way too much fuel. Was I supposed to drop/raise the main needle in the carb when I put the 150 size jet in? I didn't do anything with the needle when I stuck the 147.5 jet in (after installing the HMF slip-on). I know there are a bunch of slots to set the e-clip on the needle in the top part of the carb. Any suggestions? I wanted to get some advice before I got myself in even more trouble screwing around with the carb. If I do need to re-set the main needle, how many notches do I move it up/down with the 150 jet in. Any advice would be appreciated, I want to get this problem fixed. Thanks again ya'll. |

One thing that you should do is reset your fuel mixture screw.
The fuel mix screw adjusts: Idle TO 1/4 Throttle The needle height adjusts: 1/4 Throttle to 3/4 Throttle The main jet adjust: 3/4 Throttle to Wide Open http://www.hmfengineering.com/forums...read.php?t=118 I followed the instructions on this site, and they worked excellent. Adam |

Thanks so much man, that's just the info I needed. I'll give it a whack and see how things turn out. I really appreciate it.

If the idle is high and uncontrollable...check for intake leaks, retighten the hardware that holds the carb to the intake.

maybe adjust the idle screw? it's a good a idea.. i say do it the old school way.. run it idle for a while then pull the plug and check color... then run it at 1/4 throttle and check color of plug then 1/2 and so and and on.. till you get it right.. unelss you want to spend $ and have someone with a dyno do it.

EvilWarrior has it right . The first 1/4 throttle is the mixture screw and pilot jet. I have a raptor 350 and had a similiar problem. Contrary to popular belief the Warrior and Raptor 350 are different. The stock jet sizes and carbs are different. However the throttle possition effects are the same on most quads. If your mixture screw has to be turned out more thand 3.5 it is recomended to go up 1 size on your pilot jet. A plug chop or choke test can tell you if your lean or rich. i believe when HMF did their testing they did their adjustments on a stock machine with no air filter or air lid changes. This results in a lean setting if you made the additional changes. I posted a pretty good trial and error section on the HMF forums for the raptor 350 what worked for me.
