Default Help with magneto swap

I swapped out my 1995 Warrior with a used 1998 motor. My 1995 was in bad shape. Everything went well until I noticed that the plugs on the magneto of the new engine were a different shape than my original. With the help of my manual I was able to cut the wires, put on new single connectors and match most of the wires. I don't think I have it quite right yet though. I do get a spark, but it still won't start. I took off the carb and gave it a shot of starting fluid. It fired, though it seemed muffled. And I think I'm seeing exhaust coming back out though the carb opening. This makes me wonder if the timing is wrong. This makes me think that the spark is firing at the wrong time which leads me back to the magneto.

Anyway, my manual just gives wire colors and what component the wires go to. I doesn't give a detail description of what each wire does. And I think this is what I'm going to need to make sure all the wires are hooked up ok.

Any suggestions or links to more a detailed schematic would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I think the stators are wound differently. I think you will have to put in a stator that matches your wiring harness. If the stator in your 95 engine worked, just swap that into the 98 engine.
