Banshee riders please help!

I have come to find out recently by 3 different mechs that my CDI is most likely starting to go south on me.

Bike will start up when cold but will take everything I have to get it going again after I've been riding it for a while.

I've been looking around for a new aftermarket one but I don't have deep pockets to be able to get the top dollar ones.

I've got a 96 banshee and what I need to know is what years am I looking for that the plugs will match up?

From what I've seen in my travels there are 3 different types of plug configurations from 87 to 06.

Will a 97 CDI plug into my 96 or will I have to do some mods to get it in?

I need help badly. I'm headed to Coos Bay over the 4th of July and that's coming up really quick.

generally if your cdi goes bad, it just goes bad. check your stator first and foremost.

96 and 97 cdi's are different, but i believe they have the same plug connections

almost sounds more like the engine is getting really tired. thats what my old banshee did just before it it let go. however if i remember right that cdi box should work just fine.

Dabeech do you happen to know how the 2 CDI's are different and will it hurt my bike if I go ahead and use the 97 CDI anyways?

Hazard I don't think that my motor could be getting tired just yet due to there has only been 4 to 5 very short rides on it since the top end has been rebuilt. (thanks for the info though)

The reason why I was thinking it was the CDI is because 2 out of the 3 mechs that I talked to diagnosed the problem before I even got done telling them what my problem was.

electrical is hard to troubleshoot. But generally if a CDI goes bad, it just goes bad. If a motor runs at low rpm and a cool motor then progressively gets worse its very likely its a stator. Shorten your plug gap to .005 to see if it helps any.

not sure what the difference is, although it wont hurt anything.
