raptor tranny need help

I just bought a 660 raptor from my buddy for $400.00. he is pretty unhappy about it so he sold it to me for cheep. He said that he was riding it and the next thing he knew it would only go in reverse, so the moral of the story is he had to drive it back to his pickup in reverse. He said that the common problem with these is second gear. What can you guys tell me about fixing this, I do my own mehcanic work. Thanks

What year model is it? I know the '01 & I think the "02 had major tranny problems, but you can buy the tranny upgrade kit for around $600 for these year models.

far as I know the widespread problem with the 01 models was not reverse, but first or second.

do a search on here on 2001 raptors or raptor transmission (and all the tranny or trans etc) and that should get you some basic good info.

You should be able to change out the problem or broken parts, but do have to find out which are bad first too.

I would deffinately recomend you get your hands on a good service manual too because you will be getting pretty far into the engine (splitting cases etc) and dont want to miss anything that will give you trouble.
