Hi,

I have a 99 banshee with FMF pipes, silencers, K&N filter with outerwearer and a boost bottle. Bought it new from a local dealer and they did all the necessary adjustments for the mods. The quad ran fine for a couple of seasons and started acting up at the end of last season. It idles fine, starts up after 4th to 6th kick, but when you give it gas it gurgles but doesn't die. This is after 5 min. After it warms up for about 15-20 min it seems to run okay. Once I let the bike cool down, I have to let it warm up again for another 15-20 min before I can jump on the throttle. I've replaced the spark plugs, removed the carbs for cleaning and checked the reeds to make sure they weren't damaged. I've also noticed the left carb has more vacuum than the right and the compression checked out okay. Are these signs that I need a new top end? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Raz

Probably all your problem is in your jetting. My Banshee is running bad since the winter hit, not like yours is, different, and everyone says it is in my jetting, I am too lean.

I wouldn't know if you are too lean or rich, but maybe someone on here would.

Hi H300F,

Does the jetting go bad? I strictly ride dunes(Gordons Well) and it doesn't get that cold here. I know my bike is running a little rich, but it's been that way since I bought it. I've taken apart the carbs and cleaned them to eliminate the thought of sand or dirt clogging it up. I'm stumped! Thanks for the input.

Raz,
It sounds like you have a manifold vacuum leak, not a jetting problem. Do a leakdown check on your intake manifolds. If you don't have the tools to do this, take it to the dealer.

Hey I was just going to say that, Manifolds. My friend's Banshee has a boost bottle. Where the boost bottle goes into the manifolds it tears them or something, and there are slashs for air to be sucked in. He is getting rid of that boost bottle because he went through 2 or 3 pairs of manifolds. It runs really bad, not quite like yours, but it backfires alot and overheats more than normal.

Hi DesertRaptor,

That sounds like plan. I'll give it a shot and see what happens. Thanks for the help.

also, on my friends manifolds you can see the slashs or whatever you want to call them very easily, if yours are as bad you won't have to do a vacuum test, you will be able to see. On mine I checked, they looked dry rooted around a curve and I didnt know if they were leaking or not, so I just spread over some good sealer. Forget what kind, and I don't have any problems, I dont think they were ever leaking though. If you cant see the cracks or holes in yours, spread over something and see how it runs. If it runs better, get a new set of them, they are eigher $20 a piece or $20 for 2 of them, i forget which one. Or you can just use your glued up manifolds if you want...

Thanks H300F. I'll definately take a closer look at the boots and see if they're ripped.

Also look for small cracks, looks like dry rot on tires.
