Changing Oil in YFZ450

OK....first off....I don't wanna come off as a DEE-DEE-DEE...

I just got a YFZ450 a couple months back, and I've changed the oil a few times, but I just want to make sure I'm doing it right.

I've filled the Oil Tank the same way I do on my Raptor, which is fill the tank, start the quad and rev it a few times, then top off the tank to full.

But on the YFZ, I've noticed a second Oil fill cap on the engine. Is this just a vent for draining the oil from the engine???

The first time I changed the oil on the YFZ, I put oil in the fill hole on the engine, then filled the oil tank, but soon found out this was wrong when I revved the engine a few times, shut it off, removed the Oil Tank cap, and oil puked all over the place....overfill.

So what's the CORRECT way to fill the oil????

Thanks for the help......

You need to put oil in both the engine and the external tank on the YFZ. It takes 1.95 quarts total(I just use 2) I don't remember just how much goes into the crankcase off the top of my head though. Maybe 750cc? If I wasn't so lazy I would just go look at my manual, lol.

The YFZ does NOT have seperated oil like the 450R.

Put 2/3 of the oil in the tank and the other 1/3 in the crankcase, it takes 2L. Don't forget to drain the crankcase as well.

Or if you want to get technical the service manual says 1.55L in the tank and 0.4L in the crankcase for a total of 1.95L
