Default Electrical problem 2003 Yamaha Kodiak 2wd

I haven't taken the carb off yet because I'm not so mechanically inclined. I called the Yamaha dealer they didn't have a fuel additive to clean the carb but do sell some type of varnish you take the carb off and soak it in and put it back on the bike they claim it works well.

So for now a but a tad bit of Lucas gas additive in it to see if it would help it. And while riding a tank of gas through it I noticed it still had a low speed hesitation.

And while parked and idling in neutral if you shake the four wheeler from side to side it would hesitate and cut out really really bad.

The gas from the tank to the carb is flowing well I checked it. I also noticed if you turned the choke on nothing changes.

So is it water still in the gas...choke stuck on....or what.

Can I unstick the choke without taking the carb off? The cable acts like it's working but I don't know if it is in the carb.

Any suggestions other than ripping the carb apart? Thanks.

Most likely, a bit of dirt is lodged in a small pasageway, and only mechanical action will move it If there were a chemical which could dislodge the dirt....itd be a million dollar idea.

Alrighty then I put my non mechanical skills to work and had a manual and took the carb off. I flipped it over opened the bowl and sprayed out real good with carb cleaner. I took a small wire and ran through all the openings to make sure they were clear. I didn't see much dirt but I know some if it can be small. I put it back together and still doing same thing. A low idle hesitation but fine when you gas it same with riding it. I had previously turned the idle up so it would not quit on idle.

Choke is still unresponsive at any point while running. When you turn it on it feels like the lever is working but the engine doesn't miss a beat because it already is!

The choke on use to hesitate the engine after warmup or kill it entirely. No response.

Now can someone who knows about this choke thing help me out? before I take a hammer to the ATV?

Thanks.

Well if you took the carb off you must have seen the choke and where it hooks up. Does the cable still attach to the carb? Does the business end of the cable move when you pull the choke lever? Does the choke butterfly move if and when the cable that is hooked to the carb is moved? Take a look, it shouldn't be too hard to tell if it is opening and closing like it should.

Yeah, I eyeballed it. So did my neighbors who own ATV's. It don't work like that. They thought the plunger that has the suction on the backside of the carb was the throttle...and so did I. The butterfly on the front side of the carb moves with the throttle. The plunger on the backside must be the starter plunger AKA choke. It doesn't do anything thing when you move the cable and the plunger is down. It has suction when you move it by hand.

The choke is connected to the carb and appears from the outside to be moving something but it sure doesn't open and close that big plunger AKA throttle to everyone who is an idiot...on the backside of the carb.

So I don't know. I might just by a new one since nobody seems to know.

Thanks.
