I've owned a new 98 recon and a t'wolf which evolved into the beartracker. The recon was a good bike but it vibrated a little and threw some bolts. It would barely start in cold weather and would not stay started for the first 5 minutes. You had to manually and constantly adjust choke or it would quit, it was fine after 5 minutes though. Dealer said this was normal and was cold natured. Front brakes went fast on the recon and you had to be in neutral to start which was a huge pain. My t-wolf was a great bike that loved abuse and neglect, only prob was a first year flaw with the floorboard, (they cracked), but was changed next year. Unless they've improved the recon with some basic features such as start in any gear and easy starting, I'd stick with the YAMAHA.

definetely go with the RECON i had the same problem as you. Im 13 and was having trouble deciding between the RECON and the beartracker but after alot of research on both of them i decided to go with the RECON becaause I think it is more of a value than the beartracker in my opinion. They even had a shootout between the RECON,beartracker,suzuki520,polaris trailblazer250, and the kawasaki bayou220 and the RECON won i forgot what magazine it was but i am almost sure it was dirtwheels.

Dude, get a Recon. I don't know of anything wrong with the Beartracker but one of my riding buds has a Recon and it takes a beating and keeps on ticking. He has put it through the worst stuff around and it just keeps going. I ride a new Banshee and he can do anything on the Recon the Banshee can do, just at a slower pace. The Recon is a good hillclimber and mudder. It has good ground clearance so it can go places a sport bike can't. Hope this helps.

go with th recon!! my buddy has one with bear claw tires on the rear!! it is like a little tractor now!!!

I have a beartracker and like it a lot. My cousins friend has a recon with bearclaws on it and we both ride together. I have had to winch him out of the snow 5 times and myself only 2 times going through the same stuff. I have nothing against the recon because it is a good machine. It pretty much comes down to personal preference(which ever fits you best).

I would have to say the bear tracker i have a friend with one and does that thing take a beating looks alot meaner then the recon too
