i want to buy the new 450 wolverine but have a few questions. is it more for speed or mud? my buddies go mud ridding and they dont really sink the bikes but they ride through some kinda serious stuff. i really like the way it looks and its a yami so im pretty much going to get it. i just want yall to tell me the pros and cons and all the things you love about the bike and what you think would make me buy the grizzly.

Lets start out by saying it is a awesome bike. The top speed is around 50 ish. It is good for everything. Has push button 4x4. I have never gotten mine stuck even when I try(not too deep of water). I sugest(sp?) geeting it. You will be happy!

its for both. I have been up to the handlebars in water and made it out. 54 is where mine topped out stock. But just all around it has been a great bike so far.

You'll love it. It's plenty fast and powerfull. It's not a YZF 450 or Raptor 700 but, their not a Wolverine either. It does alot of things very well. I'm 6'1" and 235 and it fits my fine. It has got to be the best looking 4 x 4 out there, im my opion. Good luck!

Unlike the 4x4 500 Scambler which I think is the only other recreational 4x4 the Wolverine has no Chain to fool with. I have seen so many ATVs with chain drive screw up on the trail its crazy.

I just remembered Can AM makes one also but it,s big $$$$.

Well I can tell you the pros and cons of the stock Wolverine 450 from my point of view and you decide how it suits you...

Cons
Top speed is only around 50 mph (Mine will do 53 now but from what I gather that's rare, 51 is typical)
No diff lock or low range
Less ground clearance than most 4x4's (because of the stock 23" tires)

Pros
Tons of midrange power
Much lighter than other 4x4s
Lots of trail visibility (because of the dropped front and lack of rack)
HILL CLIMBING!

Overall I'm really happy with mine because the Prairie really didn't suit my riding style because of the size. I felt like I was riding a bull dozer every time I got on it. I've had a lot of seat time on several other ATVs and I still like the Wolverine better. My second choice (for the money) would be the Prairie 650 with the solid axle. It has WAY more power than the Wolverine, a diff lock and low range BUT it's 100lbs heavier and not really nimble even though I think it's the most nimble big bore on the market.

Interesting. I have 2 and have run it through water and mud and have had nothing but problems with them. Auto Clutch constantly fills with mud and needs to be repacked. Maybe I have a lemon.

you should pull off the clutch housing cover and see if the gasket is ripped or if your drain plug is missing.

I did a lot of thinking when I picked mine... It was the Blue Grizzly 450 or the Wolverine 450 SE... The dealer had a Green Grizzly 450 and The Wolverine SE so I got the SE...

You can't go wrong with either bike...
