Raptor 350 won't start!!
#1
I have a 2006 Raptor 350 that I having problems with. I can pop the clutch and it will stay running and then seems like it is chokes itself out and then shuts off. However, when it is sitting it doesn't do anything. Just hear the starter. I tried a new plug but no luck. Any suggestions??

You mean when you try to pull start it, it will fire up but then shut off? Could it be old gas, water in the gas, or has it been sitting for a while and possibly the carb is dirty and needs cleaning?

Well it's strange. I bought it yesterday and it was running fine. I brought it home and ran it around a little in the yard and it seemed like it was getting too much gas and then it bogged down and shut off. It won't start unless I pop the clutch. I popped the clutch today and then it ran a little and then shut off. He had aftermarket stuff on it but I didn't think to ask if he had a jet kit installed when he replaced the air cleaner. I sprayed some carb cleaner in it today but didn't seem to help. Maybe I will drain the gas and try that.

Well as expensive as gas is there's no need to dump it unless you know it's a problem. I'm not sure I understand what you mean about it won't start unless you pop the clutch. Do you mean the bike won't start moving along unless you pop the clutch with the engine already running? If that's the case, the parking brake is probably messed up and the rev limiter is kicking in. Most people do away with the parking bake altogether by getting a block-off plate ($12), removing the parking brake cable, and connecting 2 wires that run to the clutch lever.

Well when I try to use the electric start you can only hear the starter and it will not try to start. But if I give it a push and pop the clutch it will fire up and run for a little and then it will bog down and shut off. I noticed the parking brake doesn't work so maybe he already bought the plate for it. I might just brake down and take it to a mechanic.

Yes, many times these things can be an easy fix. For example, is the fuel petcock turned on?
