Warrior with HMF slipon - what jet to use?

I have an 88 warrior that is all stock except for the HMF slip on. It runs like a champ - starts right up and never blows any smoke, etc.

I added the HMF about a month ago. It is a very nice piece and now my warrior sounds nasty, like its got a pair! :) However, I think I need to rejet the carb. When trail riding, running at lower speeds, rpms, etc -it runs like a top (like always). But when you hit WOT - it tries to cut out. I suspect this is due to the additional air flow at top end with the HMF and it starts to lean out at WOT. I think I read this is a common issue when you add a less restrictive exhaust?....

I know a lot of folks on here have warriors with an HMF pipe... what size jets are you guys running?

EDIT - I just found on the HMF website that they recommend a '152 mikuni small' jet. Is that what you guys are running?

HMF reccomends a 152.5 but i think thats a little rich...most people i know use a 150 or 147.5 i think

Do you know what the stock size is?

i believe its 145...im might be wrong but im pretty sure stock is 145 its ben a looooong time since ive even looked at my stock jet lol.

145 is indeed stock. 152.5 comes with the HMF but that is pretty fat, I would just go with a 150 if that is all you have done to the bike.

You need to put a high flow air filter on there too if you haven't.

I'm getting the same exhaust so this is a good thread for me to follow as well. Is jetting the carb easy to do?

Thanks guys. I checked out the HMFracing site and they have a jet kit specifically for the warrior for $14.95. It comes with 3 jets - a 148, 150 and a 152. I am definately going to get that....OR... for $69.95 I can get the 'track kit', which is the same jet kit + a K&N. I am leaning towards the track kit.

I know some folks say the K&Ns allow sand into the carb,etc.....but where I ride down here in NC & SC...there is not much sand. Plus, I don't ride a lot so I think I would be okay.

So... the plan is to get the track kit and start with the 150 jet like suggested above. Or..will the addition of the K&N require I go with the largest jet (152)? Please keep the suggestions coming! You guys awesome :)

If you are worried about the sand, you can pick up a K&N pre-filter for about $18. That will keep any sand or dirt from getting in your carb. I would definitely go for the "track kit".

DO NOT get the track kit. That comes with a crappy drop in K&N air filter, and that is the last thing you want on the Warrior.

The stock air filter design is terrible, to put it lightly. If you are going to put an aftermarket filter get the K&N Pro Design clamp-on filter kit, which normally also will come with a filter skin. As far as getting jets, you would be better off to go to your local service shop and buy them individually. Shops will sell you the individual jets for $2-$3 a piece, just ask for Mikuni flat/large round style.
