'07 Kodiak 450 Diff seals.
#1
It seams to be a normal thing for Yamaha output shaft seals to leak, so does anyone here have step by step instructions to replace the seals on my '07 Kodiak 450. I have never done these before and I would appreciate any advice before I start.
I assume the rear and front diffs use the same seals and are replaced the same way. Also what do you guys use to re-clamp the boots back on. I have been told that the factory ones are not re-useable and I think using long gear clamps looks junky. Someone said that each seal takes just under an hour and do I need any special tools?
Thanks

Well I can tell you how to do it on an 05, and I think it is the same for the 07. Remove wheel and remove bolts from the A arm etc so the hub and axle is hanging free. Then have someone hold onto the quad while you "jerk" the axle out of the diff. Pry out the old seal and replace it. Replace the circlip with a new one also. Apply a light coating of Lithium grease to the seal. "Shove" the axle back in and reassemble. On the rear I like to fill until it runs out. Then I let it sit a while until no more runs out. Some people have had problems with oil coming out the vent tube. I think it is from overfilling. For the front diff you have to fill it to the correct level. The front does not use a fill to overflow level. I suggest getting an extra seal and circlip just in case damage is done installing the axle.
